LOWESTOFT BOAT SHOW        13-14 May, 2006

Team Neptune were delighted to attend the Boat Show, giving members of the public the chance to share the thrill of powerboating and raise money for charity as well.

Saturday started well, a little overcast with a calm sea and drivers Vernon Hunt and Alan Young took visitors on a specially plotted course, designed to make the experience as close as possible to race conditions.  Twice during the day, bolts of lightning and torrential downpours stopped play for a while.  We were very grateful for the canopy on our stand and visitors sheltered there until the storms moved away.

Sunday proved to be a beautiful sunny day with more 'chop' to the sea making the trips more 'white knuckle' than ever.  Responses from participants ranged from 'That was awesome!' to 'The best experience of my life!'  One special visitor was Mrs. Anne Saunders, 76, a hip operation preventing her participating in her favourite pastime of skydiving and looking for a new 'pensioner experience'.

We would like to thank all our visitors for their generosity in helping us raise £650 for Waveney Sailability (sailing for the disabled) and the East Coast Child Appeal (helping children with special needs).

Our grateful thanks, too, to the crew - drivers Vernon Hunt and Alan Young, navigator Lee Shepherd and new 'apprentice' Adam Wood;  to the background team, Derek, Kevin, Alan, Caye, Pam, Tarn and Madeline;  to Lings Honda for providing the stand space, boat berthing and the first tank of fuel.

Our very special thanks to Alan Wood who made all the arrangements for Team Neptune to attend the show, part sponsored the pontoon berth and even paid for the balance of the fuel when our other sponsor let us down, thus allowing all proceeds from the event to go to the charities.
